Newsletter – July 2021

Sorry it has been so long since the last newsletter; it was a long, shut-down winter for us all but our wee Club has been busy for the last few months running clinics and training with support from lots of members, both old and new On that note, a very belated welcome to all new members, it’s great to see so many of you participating and to meet all the new faces both horsey and human.

Starting with the most recent activity; the Club was absolutely thrilled to have Russell Mackechnie-Guire of Centaur Biomechanics run a three day Rider Biomechanics Clinic. Our chairman, Shonagh Robb and husband Charlie pulled out all the stops to organise and host this clinic at Braefield, and with the help of other members, it ran like clockwork.

Initially we thought we might fill one day and perhaps open it to other clubs in the area, but interest from our membership was so great that we filled nearly all the slots over three days. Feedback has been amazing and there’s going to be lots of people in the area riding with no stirrups or one hand behind their back until hopefully we can get Russell back next spring.

Here are two happy members during and after their session.

We are so lucky to have such a good selection of trainers to choose from in the area as well as great facilities thanks to Shonagh, Linda and Yvonne. Carol Stanley, Julie Spiers, Andi Bruce, Diana Zadja and Kirsty Aird have all been teaching at Linfield Farm this year, either in the arena or on grass and lessons have been very well-supported while Erik Mackechnie-Guire’s lessons at Braefield are always popular. Thanks also to Yvonne who is hosting a Trec clinic at Wester Dowald.

Those who attended Carol’s jumping on grass lesson were blessed with lovely weather. Whilst we also welcomed a member for the future (2037 perhaps) at Kirsty’s working hunter lesson

Accredited BE coach, Sarah Houlden also teaches at Linfield but we are lucky to have access to the fab cross-country course at Strathearn Eventing for top tips on how to improve our cross-country riding. Here are some members cooling off after a tough session.

Well done to all our members who have been out and about competing with their horses so far this year. Lots of good results to report from all disciplines.

Many members have taken part in the dressage and showjumping at Gleneagles which kicked off in April and have been held every month. Don’t forget to note on your equo entry that you are an SRC member as the Club is using this as a league points competition.

Going forward, we have lots to look forward to:

Saturday 10th July    Trec Rally at Wester Dowald, Crieff with Rhoda McVey

Wednesday 14th July Showjumping Gleneagles

Thursday 15th July Flat lesson at Linfield with Carol Stanley

Thursday 15th July Flat lesson at Braefield with Erik Mackechnie-Guire

Tuesday 27th July Gridwork lesson at Linfield with Julie Speirs

Wednesday 28th July Dressage Gleneagles

Thursday 12th August Ride a dressage test at Linfield with Diana Zadja

There are still a few spaces left for all the above if you are quick! Booking is through equoevents.

BRC Area 22 Camp takes place from 21st to 23rd August at Auchlishie; congratulations to everyone who managed to get a space. It has proven extremely popular this year and some of our members fell victim to the ballot. Hang in there and you might get a last minute space.

There has been quite a bit of interest in a facebook post Yvonne put up about rider fitness and possibly organising a series of cardio and pilates sessions, so keep an eye on facebook for these starting up.

Don’t forget to keep a note of all your successes, placings and rally attendances over the year for the annual Performance Points awards, which take place at the Annual Members Meeting in December. Hopefully we will be able to have a social, or maybe socially distanced, get-together this year. It has always been a fun night in the past and by December we will all be much in need of a party!

Remember the club has a great clothing range from World Leisurewear with our SRC logo on it.

Here is a small sample of what they can do for us. Just click on this link to see the full range. It is massive! Everything from jackets and polo shirts to bags and saddle cloths.

You can order direct from the company to save going through a third person. The discount code is MD10.

Lastly the Club wishes members, Jill Chapman, Vicky Dewar and Suzie Knox speedy recoveries from their various mishaps recently. Good luck to everyone for whatever you have planned for the rest of the summer and happy riding!
