Shonagh Robb

Chair

I have been a riding member and committee member of the club for many years, latterly serving as your Chairperson. During this time i have made some great “horsey” friends and enjoyed various club activities organised by our fabulous, hard-working committee of volunteers. I have five horses (and two Shetlands but they don’t count, right??) at home here at Braefield, ranging from an unbacked 3 year-old, an ex-racehorse, and 3 ISH geldings. Cracker (pictured) is my horse of a lifetime, who BE events, competes at BD dressage, and does a bit of Sidesaddle and Veteran showing just for fun.

Secretary

Our riding club is for all ages and abilities. In my case, after not riding for thirty years, I went out and bought an ex racehorse! Maybe not the most sensible thing to do, we’ve had our ups and downs, but he is just the best. This year I celebrated my 60th Birthday at Riding Club Camp and had a blast. We look forward to lots of rallies each year with our talented coaches.

Membership Secretary

I have been in Strathearn Riding Club since the early 1980s and on the Committee in various roles for over 25yrs! (certainly doesn’t seem that long!!) I am a BHS qualified Coach and regularly coach all ages and stages, with my niche being confidence building of both riders and horses. I am also an RDA County Coach, Assessor and Developer and Pony Club Coach and Assessor. I also make rosettes for lots of shows and centres within Scotland. In my spare time!! I currently have 2 ponies Phoenix who turns her hoof to most things and Eden who is just learning all about being ridden.

Cloudy and I formed a team four years ago. Since then I have taken up jumping again and been around my first XC. Together we take part in dressage, XC, showjumping, club lessons, camp and local competitions.

Website & Newsletter

I’m responsible for the Newsletter and Performance Points Competition. I’ve been a member of Strathearn since I moved to the area in 1987 and, a few horses later, I now ride a grey Connemara gelding called Prince (otherwise known as Jaws as he loves a nibble to get attention!) I try to compete at dressage, BS and BE90 and love how the club lessons prepare me for competition and give me confidence.

Riding club has been great for me and the horses. I came to Perthshire nearly 5 years ago not really knowing anyone, but through riding club I have met some wonderful friends. I have 3 mares, pictured with me is Flo who I am regularly seen out having fun with.

I have been part of the club and on the committee for the past 8 years and organise some of our rallies and training. I have two horses and a small driving cob. I enjoy xc training, competing at local hunter trials, attending camps, rallies and hacking round the Perthshire countryside.

I have been riding since I was eight, bought my first horse aged 23 the day before I got married and now own five horses!

I enjoy competing BS and BE and previously had good success in the workers at Blair. This year I’m aiming for BE90 and upwards.

Committee Member

I have been a member of riding club for three years and been on the committee for two. My unicorn is called Piper and despite being on the more mature side, loves getting out and about! Since joining the club we have enjoyed the many varied activities on offer. I am very grateful for all the support and encouragement I have received from members and trainers.

“I’ve been part of SRC for about 15 years and on the committee for a few years now. I love being a member of this friendly, helpful club where I’ve made so many friends over the years. I breed highland ponies at home so can sometimes be seen on a hairy one at rallies but generally compete and get lessons on Poppi”

“I’ve enjoyed being part of the riding club for 4 years , with my horse Jess.
Jess had only hunted before I bought her so the variety of rallies and coaches have helped, encouraged our progression. The Club has been a great way to meet new people and make new friends. On the committee, I help organise rallies and training.”
