Newsletter – October 2021

Those of us who went to the Area 22 camp at Auchlishie in August had the best time at a great venue with fabulous instructors; and the food was amazing! Disappointing that SRC members did a vanishing act before being roped into the on-foot “triathlon” on Sunday night. Very embarrassing but a good effort from Tammy and Erika, who nearly died in the process!!

We also celebrated our wonderful secretary, Sue’s, birthday at camp in typical SRC style, with lots of bubbles and cake.   Sue really deserves a huge thank you this year for all she does, but especially for getting us all organised for the Riding Club Championships, back at Auchlishie in September.

The Champs! What can I say – 16 riders, 18 horses, 6 teams and 43 classes – what an effort for our wee Club.

A couple of riders hit the deck, but no harm done, a couple were a bit disappointed with their results, but on the whole everyone did brilliantly. Special mention goes to Katie Jamieson and Flo for a spectacular dressage score of 20 in the 80cm Horse Trials and just a few time penalties to put her in second place individually.

Closer to home, we have had a wide variety of clinics and lessons including some morning and weekend sessions to try to cater for everyone. As you can see from the photos below, cross-country to trec are proving popular with members.

The Gleneagles dressage and showjumping leagues, which incorporate a SRC league have now completed and the results will be announced and prizes presented at the Annual Members Meeting.

We are delighted to announce that there will be cash/voucher prizes for this year’s Performance Points winners, which will also be announced at the AMM. The lucky winner will receive £100 as well as a trophy with monetary awards down to £10 for 6^th place. There is a Performance Points form attached to this newsletter, or, if you are reading it on facebook, I will upload one there. Read the rules carefully because there are lots of extra points to be had for representing the Club and for volunteering.

Going forward, we have a good selection of autumn /winter rallies including our first at the fantastic new indoor school at Netherton Equestrian. We also have a few indoor, unmounted meetings planned, including a presentation from GB Paralympic equestrian coach, Erik MacKechnie-Guire on his experiences at Tokyo; and an equine behaviourist. Keep an eye on the Club fb page for details of when these are on.

Who is up for pilates? And who just wants to get fitter? Yvonne has organised a six week block of lessons with Gail Simpson, GS Fitness Mill in Auchterarder. The first session is at 10.30am on 8^th November and weekly thereafter. Sessions last an hour and we need a minimum of eight people to ensure it runs. Booking is open now on equoevents.

The Annual Members Meeting, including the annual presentation of prizes, will take place at The Lovat Hotel, Perth, on Tuesday 7^th December arriving at 7pm for a 7.30pm kick-off. We hope to see as many members as possible. Please let Sue know if you are able to attend by Friday 3^rd December so we can let the hotel know how many for dinner. Well done to everyone who has supported the Club this year by competing, volunteering or representing us at bigger events, such as Shannon Maclean, who came fourth in a tough style jumping at Blair Castle Horse Trials.

Congratulations too to member, Kirsty Knox, who recently married Mitch Hayfield complete with horse slobbers on her beautiful dress!!
